Journal Guidelines

In the drafting process, journal entries should be seen as the least formal and most creative type of writing which explores ideas which may not necessarily develop further into forum posts or essays, but nonetheless are worth exploring for the experience itself.

While I do encourage a free and open area of expression for our class, there are still some parameters needed which you should follow:

• Points will be deducted at my discretion if blog entries are not evenly published throughout the semester. Partial credit will be given, but heavy deductions made for last minute entries.

• Entry Length: Each entry should be about 100-150 words in length at minimum and will not be commented on as an essay but as count as participation points.

• Diction: Though there is a sense of freedom, please refrain from texting abbreviations, advanced obscenities (PG or below level okay), and any derogatory comments meant to be hurtful.

• Creativity: Feel free to incorporate memes and html links within your entries as a way to enhance your discussion.

There are Two Journal Entries :-

Entry 1: Read this quotation from Carl Becker: Hoping to find something without looking for it, expecting to obtain final answers to life's riddle by resolutely refusing to ask questions - it was surely the most romantic species of realism yet invented, the oddest attempt ever made to get something for nothing.

Describe in your journal entry what this means to you in your own words and how this quotations addresses the true purpose of research.

Entry 2: Describe a previous experience you had writing a research paper for, preferably, an English class. This can be for high school or even a current college course. What were your difficulties writing it? What unexpected rewards, if any, did you get out of it? Be specific with narrative details as much as possible.
