1) Define and discuss the unanticipated event that has presented the financial barrier that you are currently facing.
2) How would receiving a scholarship impact your educational goals?
3) Describe how you identified the need. How did you approach this creatively? Was this part of a group effort? If so, what individual role did you play?
4) Describe how you exercised initiative and took the lead to address a solution. Did you accept a leadership position because it was offered to you or did you seek out a leadership role to participate in this project? Were you part of a leadership team or did you take on the sole leadership role and supervise others?
5) How did you apply academic/intellectual skills to complete the project? How difficult was this project? Who did you involve in the solution?
6) What was the outcome? Did your endeavor fail or succeed? Did you help others succeed? Did you fail? What did you learn from the endeavor? Illustrate your impact on others with data and numbers that quantify your outcome.
7) Discuss how an extra-curricular project ties in to your major and the work you hope to accomplish in your career.
Below is some of my personal background.
"My thesis was the most challenging task I've ever completed. While my friends collaborated and shared ideas, I wanted to do something different, something no one had done before. I researched birds and did my thesis on Quails. I spent a lot of time looking for this bird and got a lot of false leads from people who claimed to know what I was looking for. I eventually located the bird's nest of the species I was looking for after speaking with a farmer who stated he knew about this bird in his field. I began filming the birds as they flew in and out of the nest. When my battery was nearly dead, it was time to return home and go through what I had written. I filmed and wrote my final thesis for weeks. I had the book printed and bound in hard copies for my presentation. Many professors praised and complimented me on how exceptional my project was."
