Describe how the user will interact with the kiosk user

Assignment: User Interface Design

In this first Individual Project, you are asked to select a city and the major functional options that will be included in the tourist information and reservations user interface. The other information you will include is a physical description of the input displays (both for the kiosk unit and smart phone) and input tools to interact with the units such as voice, touch, pen, typing, and so on. Finally, discuss how persons with disabilities such as physical, visual, and hearing impairments are supported in using these interfaces. This information is the requirements for the design of the two applications.

You will also be setting up the User Interface Usability Specification document outline that you will add to each week. The combined Individual Project (IP) assignments will be your final key assignment deliverable.

Throughout this course, you will be working on several design and usability testing aspects of this user interface that will result in the final usability specifications document. Additional information and the deliverables for each Individual Project will be provided in the assignment description for that project.

Project Selection:

The first step will be to select a city as the target for your user interface. This project will be used as the basis for each of the assignments throughout the course and should conform to the following guidelines:

Nontrivial: The selected city and functions should reflect a real-life help center.

Domain Knowledge: Student will be applying knowledge of the city and city tourist support needs to determine the categories that will be included in the interface.

Select a city and functional categories or options that fit these requirements and submit your proposal to your instructor before proceeding further with the assignments in the course. Approval should be sought within the first few days of the course. Your instructor will tell you how to submit this proposal and what notification will be given for project approval.

Task

Your first task in this process will be to select a city to use as the basis of your design. You will also create the shell document for the final User Interface Usability Design document deliverable that you will be working on throughout the course. As you proceed through each project phase, you will add content to each section of the final document to gradually complete the final project delivery.

The following are the project deliverables:

Submit the project proposal to the instructor for approval.

Project Outline

Give a brief description of the city and tourist attractions that could be presented in a user interface. Include a list of major categories the user interface will support.

The material can be taken from the approved proposal submitted to your instructor.

Be sure this project is approved by the instructor.

User Interface Technical Requirements

Document the detailed kiosk technical requirements including screen measurements and interaction capabilities (i.e., keyboard, touch screen, voice control, and other input devices).

Document the detailed smart phone application's technical requirements including display size and interaction capabilities (i.e., voice control, stylus, visual keyboard, camera, and touch).

Document the interaction capabilities to support potential disabilities such as visual, hearing, or physical impairments.

User Interface Human Interaction Requirements

Describe how the user will interact with the kiosk user interface in terms of access and navigation based on the requirements described in the previous section.

Describe how the user will interact with the smart phone interface in terms of access and navigation based on the requirements described in the previous section.
