Discussion Post: Discuss the Effects of Media on Depression in Females
Lifetime prevalence of major depressive disorder is approximately 15 percent and the point prevalence is approximately 5 percent. This translates to about one in seven having a greater chance of developing major depressive symptoms in the course of their lifetime and a 1 in 20 percent chance of experiencing depression at this very moment. As common as depression is among modern society, research indicates that women are twice as likely to experience depressive symptoms than men. The reasons for this uneven gender distribution is considered to be result of a combination of biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors.
Research depression among women and the role society plays. Discuss the effects of media on depression in females and include various types such as TV, movies, magazines and social media. Describe the biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors that may play a role in the significant disparity between the sexes in regards to depression. Include evolutionary theories on why women are more often diagnosed with depression than men.
