1. Assume you are the DBA in our XYZ Company, in the first stage of performance analysis, before the system goes live, you have taken the time to meet with your users and understand the type of system and the transaction that will be most prevalent. You understand that your system is a mix of online transaction processing (OLTP) and decision support system (DSS), with some ad hoc queries thrown in. You have discussed the most common transactions that will be run on the system and identified them as the critical business transaction (CBTs). After identifying the CBTs, you were able to work with your users and, for most of those transaction, identifying how long each transaction should take and when it will normally be run.
At some point, you get a call from your user community telling you that the database is running "very slow".
