Assignment:
Josh Smith is an engineering student at ASU. He has contacted you regarding a product idea. He has an idea for a software program and sensor to alert a driver if a child is left in a car. He knows that you have knowledge about the law because you take Engineering Law. He would like to develop the product with you: the steps being design, build, validation and then marketing. Newco has entered into an agreement to make and sell the product with your business entity. The first batch of the product ( 100 units ) is released to the Shelby County School System for 1 dollar in exchange for feed-back regarding the system over the next 6 months.
During the course of the trial, a pre-school student Angelica Huston, is left in a van. Luckily, a passerby heard the child crying and rescued the child, before she was injured. Your data shows that the driver failed to activate the system prior to leaving the van. Angelica's parents have filed a negligence and product's liability suit against: the City of Memphis, NEWCO, Josh and yourself.
