When I was in middle school I found someone's wallet that had been lost. A lot of my friends said I should keep the wallet because there was $500. cash in it. I decided that was not what I wanted to do because it was not right to keep something that's not mine and we never know what people are going through. That money could be all the money they have and now it was gone because they lost their wallet. I told my parents and we went to the persons address since their drivers license was in the wallet and returned the wallet to the guy with everything in it. He was very grateful and surprised that all the cash was still in the wallet. He gave me $10. for returning the wallet to him.

Person 2- To what extent do our moral ideas reflect the society around us, and to what extent are we free to think for ourselves about moral matters?

1. I think as much as we believe we have the freedom to think for ourselves society heavily influences what thoughts we have. We are constantly influenced by other people and just form our own opinions based off of information they decide to give us. We get to decide what we believe is morally right or wrong but there is a lot of guidance from society formed in our opinions.

2. Describe a situation in which you felt pressured to act against your moral principles or where you felt torn between conflicting moral values, rules, or principles. What did you do?

One time my friend and I were shopping and saw a girl stuff a shirt from the store into her purse. We didn't know the girl and didn't know why she needed to steal the shirt so we didn't know what we should do. It wasn't really any of our business but at the same time she was stealing something. My friend ended up telling one of the employees what we saw and the employee confronted the girl.

3. How do you explain the fact that in the business world basically good people sometimes act immorally?

People just want to be accepted by others and I feel like that contributes to them making immoral decisions. When people are pressured by others it's harder for them to say no because of the fear of being excluded. Other times, people act immorally because they feel like it's the only option they have in a difficult situation.
