Discussion Post: A Scientific Underpinnings
Part I
• Compare and contrast a minimum of two middle range theories and describe how one of these middle range theories could serve as a foundation for direct practice improvement. Provide examples and literature support. Explain how these theories guide nursing practice and how nursing practice and theories guide research.
• Conduct a literature search in the Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) using the terms middle range theory, mid-range theory, and nursing. Select one of the articles in which the development of a middle range theory is the major focus of the paper. Share the article citation and describe how the theory was developed.
Part II
• Describe a recent or current ethical issue you have faced in nursing practice or which has attained national attention. Discuss the application of ethical theories or principles to the issue. Provide examples or use your DNP Project if you have any potential ethical issues /concerns and describe how you will address this? Provide literature support.
• Based on your response to Topic , provide a decision tree of how you came to the decision of ethical theory application. Table 1: "Checkpoints for Ethical Decision Making," in the article "Resolving Ethical Dilemmas: Applying the Institute for Global Ethics' Ethical Fitness' Model to Occupational and Environmental Health Practice Issues," provides a model for guidance.
Part III
• Learning theories have implications for advanced practice nurses outside the classroom. Share an example describing the application of learning theory in relation to your DNP Project.
• Health behavior change theories suggest behavior change as a "process," not an "event." Propose a health behavior change theory that corresponds to your DNP Project.
