Describe a current issue being debated about the american

Assignment

An important purpose of this assignment is to examine what the different branches and layers of government do to address a policy using a current issue to illustrate it.

Complete a research essay on the government and healthcare. I want an essay, not a letter or memo, or background paper - an essay with an introduction, body, and conclusion.

The U.S. healthcare system has been a controversial topic for decades. Here are the aspects and guidance questions to address for this essay:

1. Identify a current issue being debated about the American healthcare system.

2. Explain two competing solutions to this problem.

3. Evaluate which one is preferable.

4. Address the responsibilities of each level of government, which are federal, state, and local. (Most of the essay will be about the federal government).

5. Address the responsibilities of each of the three branches of the federal government.

OVERVIEW: 1. You are a White House Staff Member working for a newly inaugurated President. The President is preparing the first "State of the Union" address to Congress which will outline the president's vision for addressing current issues facing the United States. 2. You will research issues to create the President's address. The president is not a dictator. The proposals must consider the Constitution, relevant court rulings, and public opinion. 3. After you have completed your research of the issues, you will then create a PowerPoint presentation reflecting your proposed State of the Union address. Think of it as your TV infomercial promoting your plan, and use it to grab the public's attention.

For each essay, choose a problem within the topic. What are two competing solutions to this problem? Explain which one is better and why. How will the different levels of government be involved (federal, state and local)? This will require research into news recent news articles (published within four weeks of each assignment's due date). For each respective week, include relevant information from the required readings for that week too.

REQUIREMENTS :

• No less than 500 word minimum length, not including references listed at the end or footnotes if used. The conclusion drives the length of the actual paper.

• Incorporation of concepts and terms from the required readings.

• Inclusion of facts from a recent news article about the topic/solution.

• Correct spelling, grammar, and formatting, whether it's APA, MLA, or Chicago/Turabian footnotes.

• Strong paragraphs, solid introduction, and a conclusion that contains lessons and takeaway. A conclusion is measured in paragraphs and will not be a single block of text with multiple ideas crammed inside, or just a summary of what you wrote. A summary is not a conclusion. I don't want an abstract, just a strong introduction.

Essays should be written in the third person perspective. (Avoid using "I, me, my, mine, we, us, our, you, your"). I don't mind I if appropriate, but as a rule third person is best. Never use we or you.

Don't answer the questions as if this were an exam, or in a linear manner. Evaluate what is being asked and then determine via an outline how you will approach the essay, and what you hope to learn and takeaway. Then follow the outline that will lead to the conclusion. I don't want just a lot of facts if the facts are not relevant to the conclusion. So if your paper has nothing to do with state or local issues, even though the question suggests that you cover this, it is not necessary. Truly, it is your conclusion that drives both the paper and the grade. If your body matches the conclusion, and the introduction lays it all out, that is what is going to determine the grade, not the guideline questions which are meant only to help you formulate ideas.
