Describe a community leisure activity

Case Scenario:

Cindy is a 55-year-old Indigenous woman who has lived in a group home in Swift Current since she was 25 years old. Cindy has just moved to Saskatoon after the passing of her last surviving parent, who also lived in Swift Current. The reason for the move to Saskatoon is to live closer to her younger sister, who lives in Saskatoon. Cindy has no other family.

Cindy was especially close to her Dad, who chose to live in Swift Current in his later years as he got a job at the Living Sky Casino. Prior to that, the family lived on the Neekaneet First Nation, where Cindy's Dad worked as a ranch hand for one of the cattle operations near Maple Creek.

Cindy loves to tell stories about her 'cowboy Dad' and about how she loved to watch him play hockey with the local team. Before he died, they would often go to hockey games on their weekends together, and a few times he took her to see some great bands who were putting on shows at the Casino. Cindy loves music of any kind, and talks about she and her Mom dancing to the drums when she was a teenager at local pow-wows. Family and band feasts were a common event in Cindy's childhood.

Cindy has a diagnosis of William's Syndrome. She is able to communicate verbally with others. Cindy does have some physical limitations as it relates to her knees due to living with William's Syndrome as well as some cardiac concerns. She has had several heart surgeries; the first one while still a toddler.

The information that was provided in a summary report from the Swift Current group home is as follows:

Cindy is a 55-year-old woman who loves food but has a difficult time understanding that food is not the only component of an activity; she is overweight and we have had to limit Cindy's activities away from the home for she always wants to have a treat whenever she goes out and behavioral issues have arisen when she has been told she cannot have a treat every time she leaves the house. Cindy has in the past participated in segregated music programs, in a drama class for people who have a disability and an aquacize program for the people who lived with Cindy in the group home. She participated in Special Olympics bowling as well.

Cindy misses her parents. Her mother passed away over 10 years ago; her father just passed away 6 months ago. Cindy has become more withdrawn and sad since his passing for he was very involved in his daughter's life, having her stay with him at least two weekends a month since she moved to the group home.

Cindy does have a sister in Saskatoon; however, she is not very involved in Cindy's life. It is assumed this is because of the distance from Cindy since she lives in Saskatoon and because her sister is in a career that takes her away from home on a regular basis. Cindy has 2 nieces and 1 nephew who are all in high school; her niece, Tanya, graduates from high school this year; Tanya communicates with Cindy through Facebook quite regularly.
