Imagine working with someone whose behavior disgusts or disturbs you. Perhaps the client is a victim of or is perpetrating child pornography, sexual abuse, domestic violence, or date rape. There are clients who use vulgar language or are foul-smelling. What if the client was verbally abusive or threatening to you as the counselor? Perhaps you were asked to complete on-site counseling in a nudist colony.
For this assignment, reflect on a situation, activity, or behavior that completely disgusts you. Imagine that this person just walked into your counseling room. How might you handle working with that person who is in this situation, participates in this activity, or exhibits this behavior that you find abhorrent?
