Problem: Carolina is a 34-year-old transgender female. She is a survivor of a hurricane that has devastated her entire community. She has lost her home as many of her family and friends have. Carolina currently resides in a shelter but has been able to maintain employment. Prior to the hurricane she slept 8 hours a night, maintained a healthy regimen, and was relatively a content person. After the hurricane, she has had difficulty sleeping, only able to sleep a maximum of 3 hours a night. She no longer exercises and barely eats. Several times a day she finds herself crying. It has been two weeks. This case scenario demonstrates that Carolina is in crisis.
