Forms a strong framework which supports the softer tissues and maintains the shape of the body.
This system is composed of bones, cartilage, ligaments and tendons. These structures can be felt through the layers of skin in areas where there is less covering of muscle or fat.
Provides contraction and movements to body parts. It holds and covers the skeletal system and contributes to the body's morphological physique.
Coordinates the activities of the body by responding to stimuli received by sense organs.
- help body structures communicate with one another
- regulate thought and behaviour
- direct internal and external glandular and muscular movements of the body
- Sense and perceive sight, sound, sensations, thoughts and memories.
Filters, purifies and eliminates waste products from the body; maintains body's normal composition.
Breaks down food into wastes and nutrients.
Nutrients are absorbed and waste eliminated.
Breathing enables oxygen to be collected from the lungs and, via the blood, reach the body's cells. Carbon dioxide is exhaled as a waste product.

Transports materials around the body via blood and blood vessels.
It plays an important role in gaining and maintaining temperature and chemical balance to the body in a process known as homeostasis.
Provides immunity and drains fluid from tissues that can include microbes, toxins and other wastes.
- transport and remove bacteria and foreign materials
- drain away excess fluids for elimination from the body
- break down larger protein molecules or toxins to be drained into the cardiovascular system
- provide immunity
Comprises the skin and its appendages
Protective covering for the body and plays an important role in homeostasis (i.e. body temperature).
Coordinates and regulates processes in the body by means of chemicals (hormones) released by endocrine glands into the bloodstream.
