Technology Essay Assignment
Purpose of the assignment:
This essay assignment is designed to assess your ability to support a specified central idea based on class readings and to develop your central idea with topic sentences, examples and explanations into a grammatically sound, well organized, unified, and coherent 3-5 page essay, formatted according to MLA guidelines.
Objectives:
• Demonstrate your ability to create a compelling central idea related to technology.
• Create a well-formed thesis statement that expresses your central idea.
• Support your thesis statement with specific topic sentences.
• Use relative and appropriate examples to develop your topic sentences.
• Promote coherence through thoughtful organization of ideas and clear and origi- nal transitions, linking ideas together in a manner that develops your central idea.
• Integrate research material into your essay using proper MLA formatting, in-text citations and a Works Cited page.
Task:
• Begin by reading the essays (assigned in class).
• Practice prewriting techniques (free-writing, clustering, brainstorming) to develop a preliminary central idea for each essay.
• Choose one central idea and do some research to support it (this research does not have to be from an academic source).
• Once you have completed these steps, write a first draft of your essay, using MLA style for formatting and source material integration (in-text citations and Works Cited page).
• Submit one electronic copy on Turnitin.com and one printed copy to me.
