In this assignment, you will continue to develop your understanding of the hero's journey. You will review the lesson that covers modern approaches to and adaptations of the hero's journey. This project will take a deep dive into the hero's journey as seen in modern media and will demonstrate the continuity of the hero's journey as a universal narrative template. Need Assignment Help?
Complete a presentation (PowerPoint, Keynote, or Canva) explaining how your selected film fits aspects of the Hero's Journey outlined by Vogler or Freytag's Pyramid.
Your presentation must address the following:
Slide 1: Film name, your name, date. Include an image of the movie poster.
Slides 2-4: Select from the 14 archetypes we discussed in Week Two and identify archetypes for at least three characters in the film. Then write one paragraph that discusses traits and actions that reflect the archetype for each character. Include an image of each character.
Slides 5-9: Choose one structure (Vogler's or Freytag's) that fits the film more closely. Analyze how the film aligns with this structure, discussing at least five steps from Vogler's Hero's Journey or the five plot points from Freytag's Pyramid. Each step should be discussed in about a paragraph and use specific examples from the film to support your analysis. Include at least three relevant images to illustrate key moments or concepts.
Slide 10: Write one paragraph and discuss the hero's personal transformation. Identify at least one major turning point that contributed to their growth. Include at least one image of the hero.
Slide 11: Works cited page. You must use MLA format to cite all references. This should include all course materials that were used during research and completion of the presentation, the LAFS library source from which a supporting quote was obtained, and any other outside sources that were consulted during your research. Please refer to the MLA citation guide in the course resources module for proper formatting.
Required Supporting Quotes:
Within your presentation, you must include two supporting quotes from any of the course materials and one supporting quote from an outside source found in the LAFS library. The quotes must be woven into your statements. For example:
Vogler's Practical Guide states, "insert quote here", and we see this when the hero does X/Y/Z or the hero faces X/Y/Z, etc.
