State Issues for Mental Health Counseling
Each state authorizes and regulates the practice of mental health counseling within its borders. These rules define the roles and environment in which mental health counselors practice. In many states, the licensure laws are championed by state counseling associations. Therefore, it is good to know the benefits of your state and national professional organizations.
States also fund and regulate many mental health services such as provider status, reimbursement, and third-party payment. The counseling environment can extend into emergency and crisis situations; again, each state (and even community) standards and requirements must be known before the fact.
Your State Issues project should demonstrate a basic understanding of the licensure laws and regulations in your state. Your project should also provide a world-view of the mental health professional in your state.
1. Begin your project by researching the recent counseling-related developments within your state. Analyze these developments and their possible impact on the mental health counseling profession in your state. Provide an overview on the hot topics in mental health care in your state.
