Prepare an 11- to 15-page paper (not including the title and reference pages) that assesses a legal/ethical issue or situation relating to a current, previous, or potential future work environment. Use at least 10 scholarly sources that are suitable for research in a graduate-level course.

Your paper must include the following:

  1. A description of a business situation that presents a legal and ethical issue. The business situation must be from prior, current, or anticipated future employment experiences or from a current event. The description of the business situation must not exceed two pages.
  2. An analysis of the ethical concerns raised by the situation.
    1. Apply at least two different ethical theories to the situation to support at least two different outcomes.
    2. The paper must determine which ethical outlook as applied to this particular situation will result in the best legal outcome for the business.
  3. An explanation of at least three of the relevant areas of law that have been addressed in this course (e.g., constitutional law, contracts, anti-trust law, securities regulations, employment law, environmental law, crimes, or torts) and an assessment of the each area of law as it applies to the business situation identified.
  4. A recommendation to reduce liability exposure and improve the ethical climate or the overall ethics of the situation. Your recommendation must be supported by specific legal, ethical, and business principles.

Paper- Professional Ethics and Responsibility at Workplace

1. Introduction

o Definition of Ethics: Moral principles that govern a person's or group's behavior.
o Expectations of employers from professionals and vice versa.
o Relationship between ethics and social contract. The contract has it that the employer provides a conducive environment for working and remuneration and in exchange the workers give their time to work.
o Name of the organization. I will use Walmart stores as the organization with sex discrimination.

2. Description of the business situation: Discrimination

o Legal issues presented: failure to employee female employees leading to unequal employment which is against the employment laws.
o Ethical issues presented: The unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex.
o How the issues affects work performance. Poor work performance.
o Effects of the issues: Male workers form a perception that, they are better than the female workers.

3. Description of ethical theories which the situation will be analyzed.

o Definition of ethical theories: Ethical theories and principles are the fundamentals of ethical investigation for the reason that they are the standpoints from which direction can be acquired along the alleyway to a decision.
o The theory of social contract: advocates that there is the state of nature that exist which normally has negative effects if not addressed.
o The theory of egoism: This theory advocates that the self-interests of individuals is the main reason why those individuals perform such actions.

4. An explanation of the specific area of law under which the situation will be analyzed. The United States Department of Labor has outlined laws regarding employment. The specific areas of the law under which discrimination will be analyzed include:

o Definition of employment laws and their sources.
o Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
o Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA).
o The fifth and fourteenth Amendments of the United States Constitution.
o The Equal Pay Act.
o The Equal Employment Opportunity Laws.
