2. In your view, how can human beings live together and provide equitably for their needs, without either making unsustainable demands on the environment or conflicting unmanageably with one another?
3. Discuss the role of international organizations in maintaining world order. Why, and to what extent, has it become clear that many global security problems cannot be solved by simple alliances among nations? In which countries, or regions, have organizations like the UN and NATO been successful or not successful in keeping the peace? Why?
4. Define the term sustainability. In what ways is it compatible with the ideal of economic growth? Opposed to it? Does the ideal of sustainability require that rich countries or poor countries most radically change their ways?
