Define the term - prestressing force

It should be realized that the maximum amount of prestressing force which can be  transferred from tendons to concrete depends on the bond strength of concrete to the tendon material and the surface area and surface characteristics of  tendon wires. Normally, tendon wires of up to 7 mm diameter or strands of up to  18 mm dipmeter can be used because prestresses in them can be  transferred to concrete by  bond.
