Watch the following schizophrenia simulation and follow along with the tasks the simulation gives you to do. You will see an introduction video, complete 5 easy tasks (make sure to click the blue rectangle on the bottom right after each), and watch a debriefing video. Complete this in a quiet place with headphones. Once you have completed the simulation, answer the questions below.
Answer the following questions in 2 paragraphs, remembering that 5 complete sentences make a paragraph.
I. What are the symptoms of schizophrenia, according to the DSM- 5? (Make sure to use the correct symptoms from a reputable source, not what you think or have heard are the symptoms.)
II. Define negative and positive symptoms in schizophrenia and briefly explain 2 of each (positive and negative) in enough detail to show that you understand them.
III. What is the stress-vulnerability model and how does schizophrenia begin according to this model?
IV. What type of medication might be used to treat a person experiencing auditory hallucinations, frequently associated with schizophrenia?
V. How did the simulation make you feel? Which tasks were you able to complete successfully and within the time given (ONLY DO EACH TASK ONCE)? How was completing these tasks while experiencing auditory hallucinations different from your ability to do simple tasks? How would they interfere with your ability to take college classes?
