Northwest Airlines has an excellent opportunity to show that out sourcing is not always the best option. Outsourcing has become such a common place philosophy with so many companies today that if they adopted Northwest Airlines philosophy on not farming labor or services that employees perceptions of their companies and unions could change dramatically. It is no secret that union support over the past 20 years has been on a steady decline due to the fact that union members don't feel as though the union has their best interest in mind. This has changed things and is changing things for the aircraft mechanics in the video. This is a perfect opportunity to show that companies, unions, and workers can work and exist in harmony. The added benefit of the employees holding ownership in the company through the company stock ownership program allows them to not only take pride in their work but also that if their work is done quickly, efficiently, and correctly then they will bear the rewards by seeing their stock go up.
