Assignment Task: Decision Making Scenario Three: The New CEO

You are member of the Board of Directors of the local hospital, and you and your fellow group members have been tasked by the Board as a whole to be a part of the CEO Selection Committee for Algonquins Hill Hospital, the local hospital in the area in which you live.

The Selection Committee's job is to develop an updated job description for the new CEO for this medium size hospital in Ontario. The previous CEO is retiring and it is within the Board's mandate to select the new CEO.

Not all members of the Board are in agreement with the kind of new CEO is needed for Algonquin Hills.

Some of your Selection Committee members think the new CEO should follow in the same footsteps as the old CEO. Others Selection Committee member are concerned with some of the innovation taking place in health care, new ideas, information systems, mental health innovation and so forth. The doctors and the Chief of Staff for the hospital are very concerned that whoever gets the job is up-to-date on the issues the doctors are facing. The nursing staff are tired from the COVID pressure and feel they are not listened to. The community members in the area in which Algonquin Hills Hospital resides have not had any opportunity to provide input as this time. The Selection Committee needs to decide how they will develop a plan for selecting a new CEO.
