Debating multiculturalism

Debating Multiculturalism:

Project description

In God Grew Tired of Us, we see three Sudanese refugees adapt to life in the United States. In the process, we see the U.S. — and the many elements of everyday life we have become used to as residents of the country — through a fresh set of eyes, and discover just how disorienting it can be to people who are used to a very different situation.

Write approximately one page (double-spaced, 1” margins, size 12 font, etc.) reflecting on something that surprised you about Panther, John, and Daniel’s experiences.

Did you realize that something you had taken for granted in your everyday life could be confusing for someone unfamiliar with it? Did you notice any unexpected “culture clashes” that made Panther, John, and Daniel’s lives in the U.S. more difficult?

You don’t need to cite any specific readings, and you are encouraged to write in the first person. Papers will be graded on thoughtfulness and relevance to the topics we have discussed in class.
