Write 10 page paper,for a topic dealing with some aspect of Western European music from late Renaissance to the late eighteenth century.The topic needs to be approved by the instructor. Topics will be suggested during lectures, but also check out the bibliography at the end of each chapter, and various headings within the chapters for interesting ideas.
These are some general comments and a few specific criteria for the paper:Length-please don't count words,etc.,but let's aim for about 10 pages(not including title page and bibliography-double spaced Turabian/Chicago style in 12 point font)
Sources-(Bibliography)- Can be drawn from various places, but to use AT LEAST four books and four periodicals as source, other than textbooks(A History of Westen Music,by Grout and Palisca. Pub. by Norton. 8th edition ISBN:9780393931259),you are encouraged to use the internet as well, but remember, it is a resorce tool and is not to be used as an easy way of using someone else's research. Periodicals are also more current than books, though often limited as to how much depth they can present.Document internet sources carefully too (using accessed dates), as there is less restriction than in hard copy publishing;some information amy not be reliable. You must cite your soureces carefully and use footnotes. Also be sure to access the Groves/Oxford Dictionary and JSTORE online as first step in research. Be sure to document which entries you use."
