Cven 3304 concrete strcutres - design the transverse shear

Assignment

A continuous three spans beam with centre-to-centre distance of 6 m supports 150 mm thick one-way slabs as shown below. The beams have clear spans of 8 m, 9 m, and 8 (face-to-face of 400 mm square columns). The floor supports ceiling, duckwork, and lighting fixtures weighing a total 0.5 kPa, ceramic floor tile weighting 0.7 kPa, partitions equivalent to a uniform dead load of 1.0 kPa, and a live load of 2.0 kPa.

Details of the beam cross sections at different locations (1: at support A, 2: midspan of beam AB, 3: at support B, and 4: midspan of beam BC) are shown in the figure.

a) Design the transverse shear reinforcement for the span AB and the span BC. (Select one critical section for each span and use the simplified method)

b) Calculate midspan deflections for the span AB and the span BC. Check whether the limit of total deflection is satisfied (Δ/Lef ≤ 1/500) or not. Consider both compression reinforcement and tension reinforcement.
