CRJS 4402 Planning and Budgeting Assignment: Grant Sources
There are a variety of grant sources available from the federal government. The amount of grant funds available to agencies and the way in which they may be used changes based upon shifts in federal activities. For example, if homeland security becomes a major focus of activity for the federal government, then there is likely to be an abundance of grant funding available for programs related to homeland security. State and local governments rely annually on some portion of grant funding from the federal government and most include some portion of grant funding in their annual budget.
To prepare for this assignment:
• Review the article "How to Write a Proposal for an Outreach Grant" and take note of the various types of grant sources.
• Review the video segment "Budget Forecasting" and think about how forecasting and grant writing are used in conjunction to apply for funding of criminal justice programs.
• Think about a new treatment program for probationers that you might propose from the perspective of an administrator in a criminal justice agency experiencing cutbacks.
• Using the Internet and the Grants.gov website in the Learning Resources, research and select an appropriate grant source to fund the particular type of program you might propose.
• Consider why the grant you selected might be the appropriate funding source for your program.
The assignment (1 1/2 page):
• Develop a new treatment program proposal for probationers from the perspective of an administrator in a criminal justice agency experiencing cutbacks.
• Briefly describe the grant source you selected to fund your treatment program.
• Explain why the grant is the appropriate funding source for your program.
Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
1. The answer should be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
2. The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
3. Also include a reference page. The Citations and references should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
