Creating a Client Care Plan
Overview:
You are the intake worker for a mental health center serving at-risk youth. You are scheduled to complete an intake interview with Romi, a 17-year-old boy who recently emigrated with his family from the Middle East. Romi is relatively quiet during your intake interview. As he discusses living in a refugee camp with his family, you notice he does not make eye contact when talking about life in the camp. You know, from others in the camp, there was a lot of psychological abuse and bullying from some of his peers.
Romi discusses some of the issues his family has been having at this time. His family is struggling financially and has recently been evicted from their apartment. Romi reports that he has been diagnosed with depression and prescribed Zoloft. Unfortunately, he recently ran out of his prescription as the family lost their medical insurance.
Romi is a good student and would like to continue his education after high school graduation. He would like to attend the local college for computer science but feels he does not have the financial resources to attend college. He has talked to his high school guidance counselor but is uncertain how to proceed. With his diagnosis of depression, he tends to feel overwhelmed and discouraged when it comes to planning for his future.
