Eighth Paper Project Assignment: Sentence Outline of Paper
• Write a sentence outline for your paper. This means write out the topic sentences of each paragraph of the paper. Do not focus on the details that will develop these topic sentences. The topic sentences alone should show the logical progression of the paper.
• Put your thesis statement at the top of the outline. It should be one sentence that states the point of your paper. You have three options:
Religion is entirely natural
Religion is entirely cultural
Religion is a blend of nature and culture
• Make sure that every part of your paper advances toward the realization of the thesis statement.
• Remember that the paper is not really about your religion. You are only using your religion for examples illustrating the thesis statement.
• Do not reinvent the wheel! Use the research you have done on definitions, history, and rituals. Prepare your reader to understand your point through the same stages you traveled to get to that point.
• If you are using images, indicate where you will insert them and include the captions you will use with them.
• There is no need to document sources on this assignment. It's just a strategic plan.

Write the introduction for your paper
Make sure you include the thesis statement in the introduction
Your introduction should be engaging; it should make the topic seem current and important.
You may use two paragraphs if your first paragraph is a "scene setter," so to speak.
Make sure that your thesis is not about your religion, but rather, addresses the play between nature and culture in religion. You should state clearly which religion you are going to consider as an example of this dynamic.
Edit the introduction for grammar and compositional style. It should be PERFECT in this regard. Get help from the Learning Center if you need it.

Tenth Paper Project Assignment: Write the Conclusion
Write the conclusion of your paper.
Your conclusion should "bookend" the paper - so look again at the introduction. Return to the thesis statement and sum up what you have done to support it. If you started with a story or a probing scenario, resurrect that image and provide a resolution.
Edit the conclusion for grammar and compositional style. It should be PERFECT in this regard. Get help from the Learning Center if you need it.

Eleventh Paper Project Assignment: The Reference Page
Create the Reference Page of your paper.
Indicate at least three sources (e.g., books, articles, personal interviews). More are encouraged. Your textbook can be used as a source. Use the references you have already used in your paper projects. Don't re-invent the wheel!
Don't forget to include sources for any images you have used.
Use APA or MLA Style. Get help from the Learning Center if you need it.
Twelfth Paper Project
Twelfth Paper Project Assignment: Writing the Rough Draft
Using your sentence outline, write the rough draft of your paper.
Do not merely paste together the paper projects. That would make an excessively long paper! You must select your material to fit into the space of eight to ten pages.
Don't concentrate at this level on grammar and style. Get the order right, the logic right, and the structure right.
Make sure, however, that you use APA or MLA style for in-text citations as you go along. This will save you a lot of headache later.
