Create raid 1 array for dc1 a open disk

1. Login to the NETLAB+ using instructions provided (PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!) and connect to DC1

2. Create RAID 1 array for DC1
a. Open "Disk Management"
b. Bring Disk 1 Online
c. Right click C:\ area and "Add Mirror"
d. Select "Disk 1" for mirror
e. Accept conversion from Basic to Dynamic disks
f. Devices are now synching - "Healthy" is what should be displayed when finished

3. Assign static IPv4 address to DC1
a. Open "Network and Sharing Center"
b. Change adapter settings
c. Right click "Ethernet"
d. Choose Properties for "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP)"
e. Choose "Use the following IP address"
f. Assign the static IP address of 192.168.42.1 with /24 subnet mask and leave the default gateway "blank", as the virtual environment is not connected to a router (and thus not to any other subnets)
g. Assign static DNS servers, referencing DC1 to itself via DC1's static IP address and DC1's link-local IP address (127.0.0.1)
h. Accept and close Ethernet Properties window

4. Rename DC1 from generic Windows-generated name
a. Open "System" window - Right click Windows menu, choose "System"
b. Under the "Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings", choose "Change Settings"
c. Select "Change..." to rename the computer
d. Change the name of the computer to "DC1-U0715353"
e. Confirm settings and restart the computer

5. Proceed to "Submission Requirements" below

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Provide the following screen shots and answers in a single PDF (or Word) file properly labeled Lab1.pdf" Please don't just screen grab the entire desktop, as it is very hard to read the details in an inline PDF on Canvas.

1. On DC1
1. Screen shot: command prompt that has run "ipconfig /all"
2. Screen shot: Disk Management UI showing the RAID 1 mirror is "Healthy" or "Resynching"
3. Explain why a RAID 1 mirror is beneficial and sometimes even critical on a server. Why did you configure a RAID 1 mirror rather than using RAID 5 which is typically more cost effective? Why did you have to convert the disk from Basic to Dynamic?
4. Explain why a you need a static IP address on a server. What are the drawbacks, if any? Why was the DNS server IP address set to DC1 rather than some external DNS server and how is that preparing for loading Active Directory?
