Exchange and Conquest phase, Round 1 (circa 250 BCE to 250 BCE): How is your character affected by trade or conquest? Did they fight? Were they the ones going the distance for goods? Did they receive new imported crops or specialize in specific goods for export? What goods, ideas, or people were moved from one place to the other due to trade or conquest?
This phase explore how societies set up exchange systems trading resources, ideas, while people moved and created new establishments and laws for these new ideas and commodities. Sometimes the exchange system was forced as Empires rose and expanded their territories. This is the last phase of the round, time to bring the resources, laws, and ideas together both in your presentation and in the civilizations we study.
Student will create one of the following during this phase:
1) Website: Create one page/entry that examines the day in the life of your character, and how access to new resources or ideas through established imperial exchange systems or conquest affected daily life.
2) In-person PowerPoint: At least 1 to 2 slides doing the same as above
Explanation of phase:
Conquest: as soon as civilizations rose, humans began fighting each other over resources. The Smaller kingdoms and city-states would fight each other until one began to dominate the others and empires formed. These empires created access to new regions and materials for societies within them. The Roman and Han Empires are good examples of this.
Exchange systems: another reason to acquire goods was to set up long-distance trade. Trade was not only in commodities but also idealism. People moved along these networks, sometimes settling into new regions and bringing a bit of their old life into the new region and helping form something new and different. Ideas out of Mauryan India or the Hellenistic period are great examples of this.
