Instructions
You will develop a matrix of key US Service capabilities that could be used in joint operations. The intent is to help you understand service capabilities that may be used to meet challenges presented in joint operations. It should be noted that, by focusing on a Foreign Humanitarian Assistance (FHA) operation for this assessment, your efforts will gravitate to those capabilities the services bring to an operation that are not inherently war-fighting. Services provide Title 10 support to Joint Force Commanders. In the operational environment, service components are usually employed as functionally organized components (JFACC, JFLCC, etc.). This assessment asks you to identify those capabilities that the services offer prior to their organization into functional components.
A solution for Phase 1 is provided for you. Refer to the document, Service Capabilities Matrix Phase 1. Use this solution as you work through Phase 2. You must complete the matrix for Phase 2 and justify your responses. The format is provided for you in the document, C300 Service Capabilities Matrix Phase 2.
Your product must include the below elements:
(1) The key operational capabilities for each Service organized out by asset, and what that asset provides;
(2) Identification of the strengths and limitations of each Service capability (including assistance required);
(3) Justification of your response in the far-right column of the matrix.
As you complete Phase 2, you must address each block provided for the Services. Each block MUST be filled out for PHASE II, even if it is only pointing out that the Service capability for that phase is unchanged from PHASE I. .
