Create and develop a 10-minute powerpoint presentation

Assessment -

Create and develop a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation (including audio) based on an area of Developmental Psychology (of your choosing). The focus of the presentation will be to use the relevant theories and literature to develop a quantitative research proposal. Your presentation slides can include imagery and will require you to be concise, but you can elaborate further using your accompanying audio. Your research participants should be children/adolescents.

Information to include

Below is the list of information that you need to include in your presentation:

  • Ensure that key information is placed on the slides.
  • This should follow a 2 x 2 design
  • Ensure that you stay within the allotted time of 10 minutes. Any slides or discussions over the 10 minutes will not be marked.
  • Try to keep between 8-15 slides to ensure you cover everything you need in the allotted time.
  • Think about the aesthetics of your presentation, for example, the use of imagery.

Title -

Provide an appropriate title of your proposed quantitative study.

Introduction -

Provide critique of the appropriate current literature (relevant to your chosen research topic) that includes critical evaluation of key issues, concepts and theories with appropriate support.

Identify a gap in the area that your research can address - what's novel about your research?

Propose a rationale for your study and refer to relevant research literature for support.

Clearly present the aims and objectives of your study.

State research hypothesis/hypotheses.

Method -

Provide an appropriate quantitative study design, procedure and describe the statistical analysis needed to test the hypotheses.

Design -

Your proposal should follow a 2 x 2 (two way) design (between or within subjects).

The design should be appropriate to investigate the hypothesis and be described completely and accurately.

Clearly identify your independent and dependent variable(s).

It may help you to provide imagery for this section.

Sample -

Provide a description of the study sample, sample profile, recruitment, and any inclusion and exclusion criteria. You may wish to justify some decisions with relevant literature.

The focus of your research proposal should be child/adolescent participants but consider who your comparison group(s) will be - this is important for quantitative research.

Procedure -

Here you should detail the research process so that another researcher could replicate your work.

Describe participant instructions and debriefing, as well as how the data was collected.

Analysis -

What statistical analyses would you conduct that is appropriate for testing your research hypothesis and is appropriate to your design?

Research timeline -

Provide a timeline of your research process. For example, will your research be carried out over a certain period of time or at certain points? Is this justified?

Ethical considerations -

Give consideration to ethical points of your research, for example, gaining informed consent, unique reference codes, storing data and debriefing participants.

If your research will be conducted with children, think about gaining parental consent and the debrief process, as well as the setting of the research, e.g. a school.

References -

A reference list of all references used throughout the presentation. These can be placed on a number of slides at the end of the presentation.
