Assignment:
The end of the class is rapidly approaching and now is a great time to begin working on your Final Paper. This assignment will give you an opportunity to create a detailed outline of your paper that can be reviewed by your instructor. The feedback provided will help you create a polished final product.
Review the Final Paper instructions in Week Five. Then, view the Sample Outline from the Ashford Writing Center. (It states that the thesis statement is the last one to three sentences of the introduction. However, the thesis statement must be one sentence in length and the last sentence of the introduction.) In addition, for each of the main points (Sections 2 through 5) create a topic sentence that will introduce the mains points of that section. Make sure that your main points are supported by sources in APA format.
Select an environmental issue that interests you from the list below:
• Loss of biodiversity
• Energy
• Solid and hazardous waste
• Public land use
• Climate change
• International environmental policy
Please note that air quality and water issues are not topics for the Final Paper because you wrote a short paper during Week Two, which focuses on one of those two policy areas.
For this week's assignment, fill in the following sections of your outline:
1. Introduction and thesis:
a. Preview your main points and topic.
b. Introduce your thesis statement.
2. Environmental challenges/problems topic sentence:
a. Create a topic sentence that describes three environmental challenges/problems associated with the selected environmental issue.
b. Include at least one source that supports your points.
3. Direct/indirect environmental values topic sentence:
a. Create a topic sentence that describes direct/indirect environmental values impacted by the environmental issue you selected.
b. Include at least one source that supports your points.
4. Policy description topic sentence:
a. Create a topic sentence that describes a policy that will effectively and efficiently address the environmental issue you selected.
b. Include at least one source that supports your points.
5. Policy pros/cons topic sentence:
a. Create a topic sentence that describes the social, political, economic, and environmental pros/cons of implementing the recommended policy.
b. Include at least one source that supports your points.
6. Conclusion:
a. Review your main points and overall argument/thesis.
The outline must be two to three pages in length (excluding title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style. You must use at least four scholarly resources (at least three of which must be found in the Ashford University Library) in addition to the textbook to support your claims and subclaims. Cite your resources in text and on the reference page.
