Assignment:
Create a profile of a child including age, grade, special needs category of Learning Disability and ADHD, strengths (sports, arts and crafts, social skills, helping others, etc.), needs (homework, attendance, social skills, following rules/procedures, etc.), and present levels of performance in language arts and math.
Harold is a 14 year old freshman on the Autism Spectrum. He is popular and well liked by his peers, both in his program and in general education classes.
He has had to make some behavior adjustments, as he was displaying self injurious behavior: head banging, punching, shouting out obscenities. These behaviors have greatly reduced with the help of the Autism Specialist assigned to his case. Harold enjoys drawing, and reading to small children. Harold is hyperlexic, so he still needs to work on not just decoding words, but comprehending as well. He excels at math, and tests within basic range for his grade using STAR testing. Harold has excellent attendance, keeps immaculate track of homework. He follows any rules explained to him in advance, and is a joy to have in our program.
I then create a form of the IEP ( imaginary, but based on actual knowledge) for this student based on his skills and needs.
