Assignment

Create a PPT to layout how we would persuade others to support new gun control laws. Here's the ask:

1. Identify your target audience, and highlight their key characteristics and concerns.

1. Republicans have traditionally been the biggest group to oppose reformed gun laws

2. In 1992, 76% of Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters were white, while 17% were black and just 6% were Hispanic. In surveys conducted thus far in 2016, the profile of Democratic voters has grown much more diverse: 57% are white, 21% are black, 12% are Hispanic, 3% are Asian and 5% describe themselves as mixed race or describe their race as "other."

3. In 1992, 93% of Republican voters were white; that share has declined somewhat to 86% today. The share of Hispanic voters in the GOP has edged up from 3% to 6%. There has been no increase in the share of Republicans who are black; blacks made up 2% of all Republican voters in 1992 and make the same share of all GOP registered voters today.

4. In 1992, the median age of all registered voters was 46; today the median age has risen to 50.

5. In surveys conducted thus far in 2016, 58% of Republican voters are age 50 and older, compared with far fewer (41%) who are under age 50. This marks a flip of the party's age composition from 1992 when 61% of all GOP voters were under age 50 and just 38% were 50 and older.

6. The impact of an aging population has been less pronounced among Democratic and Democratic leaners. Today, 51% of Democratic voters today are under age 50, while 48% are 50 and older. In 1992, 57% were under age 50, compared with 42% who were age 50 and older.

2. Develop a campaign to persuade the public to adopt the solutions that you identified during Week 3.

1. So we need to focus on mostly white people over 50 based on the data above - agree?

3. Select the most appropriate media tools to persuade your intended audience to accept your proposed solution to your chosen social issue. Possible tools include a political campaign, a city council proposal, an editorial article, a commercial, a radio-style podcast, a comprehensive political pamphlet, an interactive game, a website, and so forth. Focus on creativity and on solid persuasive technique.

1. Who can take the lead on compiling this data?

4. Create a PPT to summarize your campaign. Include the following in your presentation:

1. A discussion of the key characteristics of your target audience/examples of advertising options -
2. An explanation of the main persuasive strategies and arguments that you will employ, and why you expect these to be effective -
3. Consideration of possible reasons your audience might reject your ideas. -
4. A discussion of ways to overcome these anticipated audience objections. -
5. Media tools for a campaign -
6. 10-12 slides excluding the title and reference pages (content pages only)
7. Each person needs to provide 3 pages of content.
