The training program to be evaluated is training a truck driver to drive. There are several steps s person has to go through and then determine what type of commercial license they want to obtain, class A or B. The person must plan to complete about 350 hours of training over several months. There are license and fees involved, books and the cost of school. The person will gain skill and knowledge during the training process. During the training program the person will learn how to perform a pre-trip inspection of the semi-truck to ensure it is safe to drive. The skills will include making turns without putting cars in danger, shifting gears, staying in lane and changing lanes, managing speed on the highway, dealing with heavy traffic, handling obstacles on the road, navigating through narrow streets, backing up in reverse, and parking the truck. The person will train on how to operate the truck in many types of adverse road conditions, such as rain, wind, sand storm, and snow. The training program will also teach the person how to operate the truck as a responsible driver on the way to becoming a commercial driver. They will learn how to be a professional by keeping a log book to record that the person has been on the road, they have to gain the knowledge about Department of Transportation requirements that must be followed. They need to be trained on how to safely transport hazardous material and how to operate air brakes. The person must also meet physical qualifications. There are federal regulations that state a person must be at least 21 years old in order to receive or be trained to receive a commercial license interstate commerce. The person must undergo a federal medical physical test to obtain a federal physical card before applying for a commercial driver's license. After all the training is over then they can take the test for general knowledge, airbrakes, combination, and hazardous material. Then they can do they pre-trip and then the behind the wheel drive test.
