Create a mla citation for the source

Assignment:

Select your own topic for a research-based persuasive essay. All research used in the essay must come from the WU Mabee Library research databases. Although the topic is up to you, you should be able to argue either side with equal sincerity. If the thought of arguing the other side causes a rise in blood pressure, you are too emotionally attached. Select another topic for this assignment.

Strategies:

• Establish ethos by selecting credible evidence that supports the argument.

• Establish pathos by reaching out to the audience and making them care about the argument.

• Establish logos by creating a clear argument that makes sense.

• Aim for the center: be wary of aggressive arguments or evidence that may turn people away from supporting your position.

• Know the weaknesses of your argument - show why it is strong nonetheless.

• Know the strengths of the counterargument - show why it is weak nonetheless.

• Evidence in the paragraph is a four-step process:

• Set the context for the quote. Give a brief lead in or summary of the source before quoting anything.

• Introduce the evidence with a signal phrase. "According to..." "Carr notes that..."

• Cite all evidence properly in the paragraph and with a Works Cited citation.

• Respond to the evidence to show its purpose in your essay. Write an additional sentence tying it to the essay. Never end a paragraph with a citation. Always respond to citations.
