Create a gantt chart for a given project

Assignment

Gantt charts, Program Evaluation, Review Technique (PERT) charts, and Critical Path Methods (CPM) help project managers with the scheduling process. Gantt charts list and track each activity and task associated with a project. The PERT chart is an extension of the Gantt chart, as it coordinates and synchronizes many of the tasks (Six Sigma, p. 69). CPM adds the costs involved for each phase or unit of time in the project activities.

Assignment

For this lab assignment, you will construct a Gantt chart. Using Microsoft Project will make this task easier to complete, but if you do not have MS Project, you can prepare this chart in Word or Excel. You will also identify any contingency plans that might be needed for potential problems or changes that might arise.

• Consider a project that you are working on or might work on either at work or here at school (If you are enrolled in the BUS328 course, then you should consider using the same project you are using in the Review Assignment). See bellow for the project I want to use!

• Create a Gantt chart for this project.
• Your Gantt chart must consist of at least four phases.
• Each phase must contain at least six different activities.
• Identify areas that may require more resources and might suffer cost overruns.
• Identify at least three areas where a change or a problem might occur in this project. Develop a contingency plan for this potential change or problem.

Project info:

1. Explain why you selected this particular project.

I selected organic baby foods because I decided to make my own food to provide the freshest foods possible to my baby. Doing this I will know exactly what my baby is eating and in addition organic foods are healthier due to the lack of chemicals and synthetic pesticides, it is more economical, and I believe it gets my son to be more used to eat the same food as the rest of the family! This is not only a great idea to use in my personal life but also for a family business.

2. Identify the four phases of your project.

The four phases are:

• Phase 1: Develop a recipe and identify the vegetables need it.
• Phase 2: Gather all the organic and fresh vegetables
• Phase 3: Cook all the ingredients
• Phase 4: Puree all the ingredients and put it in glass containers

3. Describe the activities contained within the four phases of your project.

First, it is important to decide which combination of vegetables you will like to cook in order to pick the correct amount of ingredients, that way you will not have an excess of ingredients that maybe will not be fresh for the next time you will cook. For the second phase you will need to choose the freshest vegetables in the market. The best way to choose the freshest produce at the market, getting the most for your money and making the best of the vegetables that are past their prime is for example looking for bright colors, avoiding soft or flabby roots in carrots or bruised broccoli. Phase three, the best way to cook food for babies will be roast, steam or boil veggies because they will conserve all their vitamins and nutrients; looking always the temperatures and the time of cooking because high temperatures can take away the food's vitamins and nutrients. Finally, phase four, using a food processor puree the cooked vegetables using the same water where you boiled for softener the puree in order to keep the vitamins and nutrients in the baby food. I will use glass containers because is safer, plastic containers can have toxic substances that can migrate to the food during microwave heating and in the other hand will also saves energy because of the plastic recycling process.
