Assignment Five: "Hills Like White Elephants"

Directions: Please read or reread Ernest Hemingway's "Hills Like White Elephants." This is a short piece, comparably easy when read the same week as Eliot's poem. Like "The Love Song," "Hills" is a Modern piece. It is a reaction to the stress and anxiety that many people felt after the 1920s and into the 1950s. The story exhibits Hemingway's signature style of writing in a way that does not announce his topic.
