Copper-Lead Alloys

Copper-lead alloys, having a large percentage of lead have determined a considerable employ as bearing material lately. Straight, copper-lead alloys of such type have merely half the strength of expected bearing bronzes. They are mostly advantageous over Babbitt at high temperature like they can retain their tensile strength at that temperature. Most babbitts contain low melting point and lose predominantly all tensile strength at about 200oC. Typical copper-lead alloys comprise about 75% copper and 25% lead and melt at 980oC. The room temperature tensile strength of copper-lead alloy is as to 73 MPa and reduces to about 33 MPa at about 200oC.
