2) If one travels from 40°S, 40°W crossing the prime meridian to 30°S, 80°E, which direction is closest to the direction traveled?
3) Turn on the latitude and longitude lines on Google Earth. (Grid under View menu).
Use the measure tool on Google Earth and measure the distance of 1 degree of longitude on the equator. Give the answer in units of km.
Now go to 45°N and measure 1 degree of longitude. Give answer in units of km
4) Contours of rainfall are called isohyets and represent lines of equal rainfall amounts. Like any contours (aka isolines) you should be able to visualize a 3D histogram of rainfall by studying these isohyets. The key explains that the green and purple colors represent higher amount of annual rain and snow (precipitation). Bearing that in mind, look at the map and write a one or two sentence description of how average annual rainfall varies across the state of Oregon. You can refer to only general regions (e.g., west, east, southeast, etc).
