Essays Assignment- Take Home
Select two essays from the following options. These essays should be typed and completed in advance of the scheduled in-class portion of the exam. Essays should be written in an organized manner and should include references to artists and concepts presented in class and in the readings. Each essay should be a minimum of two pages in length.
1. Construct an essay in which you discuss the style, moment of story shown, placement of work, and historical significance of three representations of the Old Testament hero David in Italian Renaissance and Baroque sculpture (you should discuss at least one example of David from the Early Renaissance and one example of David from the High Renaissance and one example from the Baroque - three examples in total).
2. We have seen a number of images of the Virgin and Child in this class. Why was the subject so important and how did the depiction of it change from 1280 to 1700? Your essay should include a discussion of at least three different works of art that deal with this subject (at least one work must be from a non-Italian/Northern context).
