Consistent with the American Association of Orthodontists, Dr. Haines recommends that children receive their initial orthodontic evaluation no later than age 7.  Depending on the findings of this evaluation she may either postpone treatment until a later age or begin what is known as an interceptive treatment plan (ITP).   By performing certain procedures early (before the adult teeth are fully erupted) an ITP can prevent certain problems from occurring and ultimately result in a shorter overall treatment time. In most cases, her adult patients did not benefit from an ITP which of course translates in to a much more complicated and extensive treatment plan.  As would be expected, it is only those individuals with very serious cases that are willing to even consider wearing braces at this later stage in life.

Consistent with industry practice, Dr. Haines offers the traditional metal bracket or "braces" for aligning teeth.  However, the science of orthodontics has greatly advanced in recent years, with new alternatives to traditional metal braces emerging and giving patients a variety of choices. Dr. Haines utilizes the latest technological advances in the industry, and offers her patients choices such as invisible ceramic braces and Invisalign.  The cost of different types of braces - traditional metal, clear, or ceramic - can be a major factor in the decision of the type of bracket a patient eventually choose.  Depending on the nature of the treatment plan and the type of bracket that is chosen treatment prices range from $5,000 to $7,000.   Treatment times range from eighteen to twenty four months.  As part of her patient support services, Dr. Haines uses the latest in computer technology (digital imaging and advanced computer graphics) ensuring that her patients receive the most effective care possible.

As a first step to beginning orthodontic treatment the patient is given a free initial consultation by Dr. Haines.  If it appears that they could benefit by immediately starting orthodontic treatment, Dr. Haines will discuss the treatment options with the patient.  The patient will then sit down to meet with Paddy (the office manager) to discuss payment options.  Paddy also provides the patient with a copy of the orthodontic treatment contract to take home and read.
