Consider your own sources of power, and how power affects your ability to negotiate. First, identify one situation each in which you have Legitimate, Reward, Coercive, Expert, and Referent power.

Next, describe a negotiation that you took part in, and whether or not your power helped you receive your desired outcome. Be specific, and refer to the effect from each of French and Raven's five sources of power.

What contingencies either allowed or prevented you from using your power to receive the desired outcome? (For example: Were you limited in your discretion? Were there substitutes for the resources you controlled? Was your power visible and well known by others?)
