In the final portion of the exam you will use Toni Morrison's "literary blackness/whiteness" theory, to assess a given literary piece written during the 20th century.
The goal of this section will be to think about the ways in which one of these theories about black literature can help provide a deeper understanding of it.
As you write your essay, you will also consider the ways in which African American writers construct blackness to challenge harmful or antiquated cultural myths about race, class, gender and ethnic identity.
To prepare for this section read through chapter thirteen in your main textbook and your notes on Black literature.
