Consider the quilt making metaphor: "There are two ways to make a quilt: either you pick up the pieces nearest to you and sew them together, or you start with a pattern and find the pieces that fit into your design", as a means of trying to understand how best to approach finding, and adopting new helping techniques from a variety of sources.
Do you start with whatever pieces are at hand or start from a pre-designed pattern? Which approach appeals to you most? As you move forward in your practice, formulate at least four goals for yourself on how you will incorporate new techniques into your counselling practice.
