Consider a recalculating flow in the power cycle shown in the figure. The fluid flowing in 100 ft of smooth pipe have an average specific weight of 50 lbf/ft3 and average dynamic viscosity of 5×10-4 lbf.s/ft2. Head loss in the nuclear reactor is 75 ft.lbf/lbf of fluid, and the head loss in the steam generator is 15 ft. The pipe inside diameter is 6-in and the flow rate through the closed pipe system is 22.2 ft3/s. There are four long radius threaded 90° elbows, one 1/3rd closed ball valve and a fully opened globe valve. Find the horsepower to circulate the flow.
