Consequences and effects of global warming

Assignment:

The three greatest challenges in public safety administration are funding, manpower and global warming. Historically, funding for disaster relief has been challenging for this country. Hurricanes, wildfires, droughts, and floods have drained the public coffers with increasing frequency. Added to this, are public safety issues such as mass shooters and the opioid epidemic. To mitigate these problems, money must be allocated because it is often more cost-effective to mitigate problems before they occur than react to events as they happen. Unfortunately for emergency medical services (EMS), budget cuts are a reality that is all too familiar. Those in the EMS community need to be prepared for budget-cut discussions despite the overwhelming need for EMS in all jurisdictions (Knox, 2014).

The recent outbreak of wildfires in California and Australia have illustrated the need for vast numbers of firefighters to cope with these devastating events. Also, hurricanes have taken huge numbers of volunteers to cope with the many problems that occur in the aftermath of these disasters. Food, water, medical aid, shelter and infrastructure repair are just some of the areas that need to be addressed after the hurricane has passed. Professionals and civilian volunteers are often pushed to the limit in these situations--there never seems to be enough manpower to cope with these large-scale disasters. For many volunteer fire departments, it doesn't matter how much equipment they have or how many stations are in the county. If they don't have the manpower- firefighters can't keep you safe (Harvey, 2019).

Global warming has most definitely contributed to the frequency and severity of natural disasters in every country. These events can cause famine, disease and even war. The increasing number of droughts, intense storms, and floods were seeing as our warming atmosphere holds-and then dumps-more moisture poses risks to public health and safety, too (Denchak, 2016). Elsewhere around the world, lack of water is a leading cause of death and serious disease. warming can be thought of as an issue of national security because countries can be so drained of resources that their citizens can turn to violence as an answer to their situation.
