Confidence interval with a standard deviation

At Cedar Point one of the most famous rides there is the Top Thrill Dragster. The roller coaster, which sends riders 420 feet into the air and back down in 17 seconds, has an average launch speed of 120 mph.

On a particularly windy day the park officials decided to test the launch speed of the coaster before the park opened. A sample of 8 launches was taken and the average speed recorded was 118 mph with a standard deviation of 4 mph.

A. Construct a 95% tolerance interval for the speed on 90% of the launches.

B. Construct a 99% tolerance interval for the speed on 99% of the launches.

Consider a known confidence interval with a standard deviation of S = 7 and a sample size of n = 12.

A. If the standard deviation was changed to S = 4 what will happen to the width of the interval?

B. If the sample size is changed to n = 20 what will happen to the width of the interval?
