Conduct preliminary research if you need more insight on your topic. Google, Wikipedia, blogs, and newspaper articles are good places to start gaining more information on your topic. Then decide what point you would want to argue in your research paper. In one sentence, write the main argument of your research paper. Remember, this is the working thesis and it will be modified, revised, and improved throughout the research process. Read the recommended resources on writing effective thesis statements in this week before submitting.

Here is what MLA prescribes as a general rule for creating your bibliography:

• State the author's last name followed by a comma and then first name.

• State the title of your source in quotation marks (article title, selection from an anthology, an ad in a newspaper, or anything that is contained in a larger body of work).

• State the title of container or the body of work in italics.

• State any other contributor (editors, translators, illustrators, etc.)

• State the version or edition.

• State the volume and issue numbers.

• State the publisher.

• State the publication date.

• State the location (page number, URL address, disc number in a DVD set, or a physical location as in a museum.

All entries must:

• be double spaced
• be alphabetized
• use hanging indentation after the first line
• be consistent in annotation length (4-5 line paragraph)
• include an annotation that presents a summary of the information used in the essay and evaluates the source's validity and credibility
• follow MLA other rules of formatting and documentation.
